Lin & Barry Whitley

I'm Lin Klopman Whitley.  I retired in 2004 after 27years of teaching at Lafayette.  I bought my first new (not hand-me-down-yard sale) sewing machine (a Bernina), and life as I now know it began! What a difference from the treadle I learned to make doll clothes on when I was little, and the old, black Singer 99 my Mom still uses!  I sew everyday, and am happy to have found a creative outlet that I can share with others.  I can sew anything from curtains and pillows to quilts to prom dresses, and if I come across something with which I am unfamiliar, I do everything I can to figure it out!  Barry and I have 3 sons and two daughters-in-law.  Working at Q - first in Quilting is so exciting; I hope to see YOU at Q!

HI, I'm Barry Whitley, Bernina Technician at Q - first in Quilting. Several years back we bought a 1955 Singer at a junk shop, took it apart, then reassembled it, and it worked!  Before long I was servicing the collection of old machines around the house, and found I enjoyed the work. To learn about newer and more sophisticated sewing computers, I attended several Bernina Training sessions to earn my official Certification. Woodworking is a hobby of mine, and, among other things, I make custom quilt hangers. Bring your machine in to see me! We spend part of our summers as volunteers with the USDA Forest Service as Conservation and Naturalist Educators in the campgrounds. We'll see you in the woods, on the lake or at Q - first in Quilting.

Lin’s “Q-tip”: Keep your sewing area well organized; it’s more fun to sew when everything is at hand. Do what you love; love what you do!
